A new particle physics experiment is being build at the European Centre for Nuclear Reasearch (CERN) in Geneva. This massive particle physics experiment will probe the physics behind some of the fundamental models we have for the current state of the universe. In 2007 when the, so called, Large Hadron Collider starts accelerating protons close to the speed of light, huge amounts of data will be generated as particles, produced by massive energy collisions, pass through the detectors. This data amounts to more than an individual institution, or indeed country, can process. For this reason a computing GRID is being developed to allow collaborative coutries to share their computing resources. I am a PhD student within the University of Edinburgh's School of Physics researching the Data Management implications and currently attached to LHCb's Computing Group at CERN.
